JBL EasySing Mic Mini Review: Hands-Free Karaoke on the Gold Coast — No Hands, No Wind Noise

MrYouWho
Real-World Tech Reviews

Did you notice my hands? I wasn't holding anything. I was singing on the beach here on the Gold Coast, and the mic was clipped to my shirt. This is the JBL EasySing Mic Mini, and it's a completely different way to do karaoke: a tiny wireless mic that lives in a charging case in your pocket, clips onto your shirt, and works with a whole range of JBL speakers, not just the big party ones.

Today we're running it through the JBL PartyBox Encore Essential 2 in the lounge room, walking Main Beach, on the balcony, and down by the Nerang River, singing our own MrYouWho songs (I couldn't do copyright ones, could I?). Hands-free, real places, real singing. One honest caveat up front: the singing is mine, so judge the mic, not the vocalist.

01What Is the JBL EasySing Mic Mini?

It's a tiny wireless karaoke mic that clips to your shirt with a magnet, plus a small USB-C dongle that plugs into your JBL speaker. Snap on the magnetic handle and it becomes a normal handheld mic. It's got the same AI vocal removal as JBL's bigger mics, plus a voice boost for high notes, and it runs through the JBL One app for effects and EQ.

The big difference with the Mini: it's not just for a PartyBox. It works with other JBL speakers too, like the Boombox 4, Xtreme 5, Charge 6 and Flip 7.

02Unboxing & What's in the Case

First thing out of the box is the case, and it's smaller than my phone. It's 170g with everything inside and goes straight into your pocket. Flip it open and the mic and dongle are sitting right there together. The case is a charger, so everything charges while it's put away.

Also in the box: the magnetic handle, a magnetic clip and a carry pouch. JBL made the Mini with recycled plastic, and the box is FSC-certified paper. Good on them.

03Setup: Lift It Out and It's On

This is my favourite thing about it. Lift the mic out of the case and it's on. That's it, no button. Drop it back in and it turns off and starts charging. I love that.

Pairing is just as simple. Take the dongle out (it's only 25g), hold the play button on the speaker, plug the dongle into the speaker's USB-C, hear the tone, and you're done.

One tip before you start: update your speaker and the JBL app first. The Mini is brand new, and the dongle might not connect to a speaker running old firmware.

04The Main Beach Test: Hands-Free Singing

Then it was down to Main Beach with the PartyBox Encore Essential 2. What a beautiful day to test it. You can sing with the handle on, or with the clip. Clipping it on is easy: the magnet goes on the inside of your shirt, the mic sits on the outside, done.

And look how I can move around, because the mic's not in my hand. One honest note: when it's clipped to your shirt you'll want the mic volume turned up a bit higher than when it's right at your mouth. You can adjust it up or down on the mic.

05AI Vocal Removal & Voice Boost

You guys are going to love this. Back in the lounge room, start a song, press the button, and the AI vocal removal strips the singer out in steps: 25%, 50%, then 100%, with the lights showing you which level you're on. No searching YouTube for karaoke versions; any song becomes a karaoke track.

Testing AI vocal removal: 25%, 50%, then 100%. Any song becomes a karaoke track.

Then there's the thing the big mics don't talk about: voice boost. When a song climbs and you're reaching for that high note, it gives your voice a lift. Guys, I needed it.

06Balcony Serenade & Sound Quality

Next up, the balcony, serenading the Gold Coast. Sorry if my singing was a bit off, but I bring these reviews to you real. What matters is the mic, and it's not thin and it's not harsh. On paper it's 50Hz–15kHz with a 59dB signal-to-noise ratio, and for a mic this small, I'm impressed.

And when it's your big moment, the magnetic handle snaps on and it's a handheld mic. So you've got both: clip it on when you're moving around, handle on when you want to own the stage.

07The Wind Test: The Beach & the Nerang River

This is the bit that really surprised me. Mics always pick up wind. Walking the sand on a windy day, singing with nothing in my hands, I turned the mic up so you could hear me more, and thanks to the AI noise reduction you can't hear the wind at all. Literally, it's windy and you can't hear it.

Same story down on the Nerang River with the Gold Coast skyline behind me: wind on the water, nothing coming through the mic. The 2.4GHz connection stayed stable the whole time I was moving around. The speaker handled it fine too; the Encore Essential 2 is IPX4 splash-proof with 15 hours of battery.

08The JBL One App: Effects, Pitch & EQ

The Mini runs in the JBL One app, and this is where you can really play. Up top you see the battery for both the mic and the dongle. Inside, the vocal removal isn't locked to 25, 50 or 100; you can set it wherever you like. There's a pitch shifter, and you can set the bass, treble and echo on your voice yourself.

Then the fun bit, the mic effects: Acoustic, Pure, Rock On, Pop Star, Church and Party Vibes. Each one changes how your voice sounds through the speaker.

09Battery, Charging & Beyond Karaoke

Battery-wise, the Mini runs up to 6 hours. The mic has a 240mAh battery, the dongle 350mAh, and each charges in under 3 hours. Honestly, you're not really thinking about it, because every time it goes back in the case it's charging.

And it's not just for singing. Plug the dongle into your phone and you can record with it. Clip it on and you've got a mic for vlogs, interviews and filming content.

Back in the case, it is charging. Out of the case, it is ready.

JBL also has the bigger JBL EasySing Mic, which we used out and about too. Use them together and you've got a traditional handheld for one singer and a clip-on for whoever's running around. The full comparison of both is further down.

The Verdict & Who It's For

What I love is that it's versatile. The case is brilliant: it sits in your pocket, lifting the mic out turns it on, and putting it back charges it. Clip it to your shirt or snap the handle on. You get AI vocal removal, voice boost for high notes, effects in the app, zero wind noise on the beach, and it works across the JBL speaker range, not just the PartyBox. Plus it doubles as a vlogging and interview mic through your phone.

The catches, honestly: it only works with compatible JBL speakers, and you need to update the speaker firmware and the app before the dongle will connect. Clipped to your shirt, you'll need the mic level up higher than handheld. Six hours is fine for a party, though the case means it's rarely flat. And it can make your voice sound better, but it can't make you sing better. Trust me.

Who's it for? Anyone who already owns a JBL speaker and wants karaoke without hunting for backing tracks, families and party hosts, people who want to dance around while they sing, and creators who want a clip-on mic for vlogs. If you don't own a compatible JBL speaker, factor that in.
