It's late, I've been editing for hours, and my eyes are done — dry, sore, leaning back in the chair just wanting to get off the screen. Here's the bit nobody talks about, though: I go to bed and my brain is still wired from staring at a bright white light all night, and I can't switch off. I've been living with one right beside my desk through video calls, filming and long edits, and a second one in the bedroom for reading and winding down. So we're testing all of it.

01What Is the LitONES EaseGlowXP H04?

The EaseGlowXP H04 is a dual-zone LED desk lamp. That's the whole idea in three words. A lower panel throws light down onto your workspace, and an upper panel lifts everything behind it — the wall, the space around your monitor. You end up with a three-dimensional glow instead of one harsh spot in a dark room, and you can genuinely see the difference the moment you switch it on.

On top of that it does a second job most desk lamps don't even attempt: the upper panel runs dynamic and static RGB, so the same lamp that gets you through an eight-hour edit turns into the mood light you read or watch TV under at night. 02Unboxing & Setup

In the box you get the lamp, the weighted base, the power brick and cable, and the rotary wireless remote. Pick it up and it feels solid — metal body, and the arm holds exactly where you set it with no sag, which is the thing cheap arms always get wrong.

Setup took a couple of minutes. Set the base down, plug it in, done. No tools, no wiring, nothing screwed onto the desk this time. And two small things I've come to appreciate more than I expected: it remembers your settings — off, on, colour, brightness — and it holds them even through a power cut, coming back exactly as you left it.

03The Dark Office Test: Bright Monitor, Dark Room

This is where the H04 earns its keep. My screen is bright but the room around me is dark, and your eyes spend the whole night bouncing between the two. That contrast is what wears your eyes down over a long session — not the screen on its own.

Switch the H04 on and the whole desk fills evenly, and you can see the wall behind the monitor lift too. That's the dual light source doing its job: balanced space instead of one hot spot. After the first few nights, that was the difference. Normally after an hour of editing my eyes are dry and sore — with this on, the screen isn't torture on my face. It just feels calmer.

It's an edge-lit panel, the same principle as an Elgato Key Light, so instead of a row of naked LEDs you've got one soft even surface. No harsh spots on the desk, and angled right, no glare bouncing back off the screens.

04The Weighted Base & 33-Inch Arm (vs the H01 Clamp)

Here's the headline change from the H01. That one you screwed onto the desk with a clamp. This one sits on a heavy weighted base, and it matters more than it sounds. You can pick the whole thing up in one hand and move it — desk to bedroom, bedroom to lounge — and it doesn't wobble when you swing the arm. That's the weight doing its job.

The arm is 33 inches and it goes anywhere. Over the top of dual monitors, out over the desk, pivoted back so you can lean into a book. There's also a little ball control on the arm itself to turn it off and on without reaching for the remote. After a couple of weeks I stopped adding extra lamps behind me — this does task light, ambient light and mood light all in one.

05The Remote: Stepless 2700K to 6500K

Everything runs off a little wireless rotary remote that sits on the desk. No fiddly buttons. Nudge it for brightness, hold and turn for colour temperature — warm 2700K at one end, bright 6500K at the other, stepless the whole way. That's around 50 combinations, and the best part is I don't even look at it. I nudge it and keep working.

Three settings I actually live in: a cooler 4000–5000K for daytime focus work, around 3000K when things get later, and full bright white when I need it. Because it's stepless rather than three fixed presets, you land on what your eyes want rather than the closest option.

06Video Calls & Filming: CRI 95+ and No Flicker

I filmed part of this review on studio lights and part of it on the H04, and the H04 holds up. There's a dedicated video conferencing mode — one tap, instant flattering light at CRI 95+. My skin tone looks right. Not orange, not ghostly, which is what most desk lamps do to you on a call.

Flicker matters too, and it's the thing people miss. Cheap lamps look fine to your eye, but film them in slow motion and you get heavy strobing and rolling bars — and that's what quietly gives you a headache over a long day. The EaseGlowXP uses a flicker-free driver. I filmed it in slow motion: no rolling, no bars. Rock solid.

07The Balcony Test: Working Outside

Because it's not clamped to anything, it travels. I've been sitting out on the balcony with the Gold Coast behind me, lamp on the table, task panel lighting the work and the upper panel glowing behind it — working outside with the beaches in view. It's a small thing that changes how much you use a lamp. A clamp lamp lives in one place forever; this one goes where you go.

08Winding Down: Reading & the Warm Glow

Now the part I actually bought into. The daytime setting is head-down, get-it-done light — easy on the eyes but sharp enough to keep you productive. Then in the evening I roll it round to the warm end and the whole thing changes character.

I've been reading a book at night with the TV on, lamp angled down at the page, and the light on the page is lovely — enough to read comfortably without the white light hammering me. And it's not just off or on: you dim it right down and you get a soft warm glow on your face rather than something that punishes your eyes. When I'm finished, one turn and it's off. Same lamp, completely different scenario. That's the bit that helps me switch off at night.

09RGB, Gaming & Movie Nights

The upper panel runs dynamic and static RGB, and it's a double-press on the top to cycle through. Orange, white, green, the full colour range. What it's actually doing is building mood lighting that cuts the visual fatigue you stack up all day — a warm dynamic glow instead of more harsh white light.

There are proper modes in there too: cycle mode, flow mode (colours drifting through the top panel — the nice one), daylight mode and candlelight mode. For gaming or a movie the ambient glow behind the screen is genuinely great, and it's all on the same one controller. One lamp for work, one lamp for rest.
