02Unboxing & First Impressions
Right out of the box, the OpenRock X feels premium. Inside, you get the OpenRock X earbuds, a durable aluminum charging case with a built-in clip, a soft carrying pouch for easy portability, a USB-C charging cable, and a quick start guide.
The charging case is incredibly solid — I even dropped it on concrete, and there wasn't a single scratch. The earbuds themselves have a sleek metallic finish that makes them look and feel premium.
03Comfort & Fit: Built for Sports
Earbuds falling out during workouts? Not with these. The OpenRock X features a dual AIS Precision Pivot Design, allowing the ear hooks to adjust both vertically and horizontally for a perfect, secure fit.
I tested them during weightlifting and jump rope, where they stayed perfectly in place; running and cycling, with no movement even on sharp turns; and commuting and daily use — so comfortable I forgot I was wearing them. With a soft silicone coating, they remain comfortable for hours of wear without irritation.
04Sound Quality: Open-Ear with a Punch
One of the biggest concerns with open-ear designs is a lack of bass. Not here. These use 14.2mm dynamic drivers with RockBass™ technology, delivering deep, rich bass while keeping vocals and highs crisp.
Here's what I tested: Fleetwood Mac — Dreams, where vocals were crystal clear and instruments well-balanced; Davido — London House, with punchy bass that felt immersive; and the Star Wars Imperial March, with clear separation of highs and lows. The soundstage feels wide and natural, and even at high volumes there was zero distortion.
05Battery Life: All-Day Performance
The OpenRock X crushes the competition in battery life: 12 hours of playback per charge, 48 hours total with the charging case, and fast charging where 5 minutes gives you 1 hour of playback. Even after days of testing, I barely needed to recharge.
06Microphone Test: Calls & Noise Reduction
Making calls outdoors? No problem. With four beamforming microphones and AI noise reduction, voices are clear and sharp, even in noisy environments.
I tested calls on busy streets, where my voice was still clear; in windy conditions, which the noise reduction handled well; and in the gym, where background noise didn't interfere. For Zoom meetings, phone calls, or voice assistants, these perform exceptionally well.
07Perfect for Outdoor Use
The open-ear design keeps you aware of your surroundings — perfect for runners, cyclists, and commuters. Running in Brisbane, I could hear oncoming traffic and cyclists. Cycling, there was no need to remove the earbuds to talk to others. And in gym workouts: no pressure on the ears, no ear fatigue. With an IPX5 rating, they're sweat and splash-proof, making them ideal for workouts.
Final Verdict: Should You Buy the OpenRock X?
After extensive testing, I can confidently say: extremely comfortable and secure fit, excellent battery life (12h + 48h total), great for workouts, cycling and running, surprisingly strong bass for open-ear earbuds, and fantastic microphone quality.
If you want a premium open-ear experience, these are a must-buy.
