JBL Tour One M3 Review: Next-Level Sound, ANC & Smart TX Power

You're about to witness something truly extraordinary. JBL, a brand we've trusted for years, has just unleashed their newest flagship product, the JBL Tour One M3 headphones. I've been secretly putting them through hell. From the buzzing chaos of the Philippines to the sun-drenched beaches of the Gold Coast and the vibrant streets of Brisbane.

This isn't just a review; this is a declaration. After testing nearly every JBL product out there, I can tell you right now: this is by far the best. Are you ready to see why?

Unboxing & Design: Premium Presentation, Ultimate Comfort

As always with JBL, the unboxing experience for these flagship headphones is truly satisfying. Everything is meticulously packed, snug, and secure. This means my Tour One M3s arrived at my door safe and sound.

Inside the box, you'll find the headphones themselves, perfectly nestled in their lightweight hard-shell case. You also get a USB-C charging cable, a 3.5mm to USB-C cable, and a USB-A to USB-C adapter. And crucially, for many, that compact Smart Tx Audio Transmitter. It really is an incredible thing to have.

My first impression pulling these out was that they felt incredibly well-built with a refined, quite understated elegance. They're pure JBL. The mocha matte finish on my review unit looks stunning in person. The frame feels lightweight yet incredibly durable.

The rotating earcups and adjustable headband give a truly premium fit. Plus, the plush cushioning on both earcups means, guys, I've worn these for hours. Even while working outdoors in the Brisbane heat or on a long flight from the Philippines, I felt zero fatigue.

My ears are completely contained inside those deep earcups. The seal is consistent, whether I'm on a long walk around Kangaroo Point, lounging right here on the Gold Coast beach, or sitting in a busy cafe. These headphones are simply built for long listening sessions. I've experienced that firsthand.

Let's talk about the True Adaptive Noise Cancelling 2.0. This is genuinely next level. Using eight microphones—four on and in each ear cup—the Tour One M3 constantly monitors your environment in real-time. It actively blocks out background noises.

When I used these at the gym in Brisbane, I genuinely couldn't hear the clanking of weights or the loudspeaker system at all. Even more impressive, during phone calls on a busy street in the Philippines, the person on the other end couldn't hear the traffic whatsoever. It was honestly a bit surreal. I was talking to my sister, and she couldn't even tell I was outside.

This ANC also cuts out low-end rumble from plane engines and city bus noise remarkably well. In a busy cafe, it eliminates much of the background chatter, allowing me to focus entirely. While some very high-end frequencies might still push through occasionally, these are genuinely one of the best ANC headphones on the market. They absolutely compete with Sony and Bose. And I really mean that.

Let's dive into the core reason we get headphones: sound quality. The JBL Tour One M3 uses 40mm mica dome drivers. These deliver JBL's signature Pro Sound with Hi-Res Audio support over LDAC.

The result, guys, is a rich, clean sound. It has deep, well-rounded bass that hits with impact but never feels muddy. Smooth mids bring vocals to life. Crisp, detailed highs sparkle without being harsh.

Whether I was editing videos, zoning out to ambient playlists, or playing something cinematic on my laptop, the clarity and balance were just stunning. It's the most immersive, refined JBL sound has delivered in over-ear headphones. I've personally tested nearly every JBL headphone and earbud over the last few years. This, guys, is hands down the best.

Now, some might find the default sound a bit "bland" or notice a slight under-emphasis in certain high frequencies right out of the box. But here's the thing: this is incredibly easy to address. It truly unlocks their true potential. The JBL Headphones app is fantastic, offering a fully customizable 12-band EQ. You can tweak whatever you want. Or, you can use Personi-Fi 3.0 to get a tailored preset for yourself based on your unique hearing profile. I tested this out, and it was great. It actually tailored the music to me. I love jazz, and the Jazz EQ preset was a real crowd-pleaser, boosting both bass and treble to create a very pleasing, immersive sound. The lack of objectionable distortion also means you can truly personalize your sound without issues. So, whether you prefer a flat studio sound or a more vibrant, club-like feel, you're covered.

Real World Usage of JBL Tour One MK3The Game-Changer: Smart Tx Audio Transmitter – Connect to Literally Anything!

On the point of sound, that brings me to the Smart Tx Audio Transmitter. Now, this is a game-changer. It's the best I've seen in years. This is a huge reason for the JBL Tour One M3's appeal. It's a universal audio transmitter that makes these headphones truly wireless, truly limitless.

It connects wirelessly to any USB-C or analog source. Think your TV, your gym machine, your in-flight entertainment system, Nintendo Switch, or even older consoles or tablets. It transmits directly to the headphones with improved latency and stability. No lag, no dropouts, just reliable, rich audio.

It even has a full-color touchscreen display right on the transmitter itself. You can actually tailor this yourself. Go through and control volume, EQ, ambient modes, and playback, all without touching your phone. I literally used this on a plane on the way back to Australia from the Philippines. I connected to the in-flight entertainment system for Philippine Airlines, and it was seamless. This is JBL creating a complete audio ecosystem, and it's incredibly well executed.

It’s also Auracast enabled. This means you can stream to nearby compatible devices and share what you're listening to. Imagine sharing a movie, guys, for example, with family and friends, each with your own Auracast-enabled headphones! This is a real future-proofing feature that JBL is pioneering. It’s a definite upgrade from when they first came out with the JBL Tour Pro 2. They've really evolved the touchscreen, and you can also use the touchscreen to control your headphones, which is great.

Immersive JBL Spatial Sound & Crystal-Clear Calls

JBL continues to innovate with Spatial 360 Sound with Head Tracking. This creates a realistic 3D listening experience. It keeps the sound anchored in space even when you move your head. For videos, movies, and immersive playlists, it adds a whole new level of depth.

To give you an idea, guys, I was at the gym listening to this. I had spatial sound on, and I actually thought the gym music was on around me. The reason being is it’s so immersive. You can set it to follow your head, so the music follows, or you can set it to be all around you. It really is incredible and adds so much depth to the sound. It's great.

I've just gone for a run along the beach here at Surfers Paradise. I have to admit, it's great. I can't actually hear the waves with the noise cancelling on there. And they fit so comfortably as well. Probably getting a bit hot in the sun, but that's because of the headphones' quality when you're running along. They sound great and feel even better when you're exercising. And what a place to be here on the beach at Surfers Paradise in Australia.

Another thing with the headphones is making every call sound like a face-to-face conversation. This is really important. Call clarity on these is exceptional. With four adaptive beamforming mics powered by an AI algorithm, the Tour One M3 monitors your environment. It actually intelligently eliminates both echoes and ambient noise from any direction. As I mentioned, even on a busy street in the Philippines, the person on the end couldn't hear the traffic whatsoever. I'm incredibly impressed, and it's the best mic I've had from JBL headphones. It also does a great job with wind noise and echoes. So, it means the JBL Tour One M3 should work really well for conference calls or working in a noisy office. So, guys, can you let me know, do you ever struggle with call quality on your current headphones? A lot of people come to me and say, "Andy, should I buy these for conference calls?" Guys, you won't go wrong in getting these. They work perfectly.

Marathon Battery Life & The JBL Headphones App: Powering Your Week

Now, battery life. Battery life is, simply put, a marathon performer. With ANC off, you get up to a staggering 70 hours of playback. With ANC on, you still get a solid 40 hours, which is well above the industry average. It often outlasts many competitors like Sony WH-1000XM5 and Bose QuietComfort Ultra.

A quick 5-minute charge, guys, gives you 5 hours of use. So, I've gone almost a week without charging. Even during travel between cities or flying back from the Philippines, I never worried once about running out of power. The Smart Tx accessory is also quite aggressive at shutting itself off. As you can see, every time I pick it up, the screen goes off. It lasts a long time. You could change the screen saver time, too, if you want.

Now, going back to the JBL Headphones app, it adds even more control and customization. Beyond basic playback, it offers a 12-band customizable EQ, automatic play and pause with ear detection, Ambient Aware and TalkThru modes, and Smart Talk activation. That incredible personal hearing profile setup using Personi-Fi 3.0 is a game-changer. I highly recommend you setting up your personal hearing profile. It made a massive difference in clarity, especially with low vocals and subtle instrument textures. If you're a detail listener like me, you'll notice it immediately.

The app also customizes the Smart Tx transmitter settings, including screen brightness and what features you want to access on the device itself. A particularly interesting feature is the Personal Sound Amplification (PSAP). This can turn transparency mode into a legitimate means to hear the world around you better. So, it really does blur the line between headphones and hearing-assisted devices. That being said, they're not hearing aids, but it can help you a little bit with it.

Final Verdict: JBL's Most Complete Headphone Yet – Should You Upgrade?

So, what do I think overall? Well, as you can see, I've been putting them on my head as we've been talking. I love the feeling of these. This is JBL's most feature-rich, flexible, and refined headphone yet. From the build quality to the performance, from the Smart Tx transmitter to your truly adaptive ANC, and its absolutely beautiful design, the JBL Tour One M3 delivers on every promise.

It's versatile enough for travel, professional enough for creators, and enjoyable enough for everyday listening. You can use it at the gym, take it for a walk, ride the bike. For someone like me who lives across devices and entertainment, constantly moving between countries, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, other cities, it works perfectly. The raw noise cancelling ability is rock solid. And the sound performance is excellent, particularly once you personalize it. It really does add to it.

Never received it

I never received my purchase

Great watch, great price.

This is a quality wrist watch, not a cheap imitation. It looks just as it is advertised, it keeps impeccable time, and the weight of the watch feels like it should, solid and is an asset to my daily dress wardrobe.

Still waiting ............

I was emailed a request by the merchant to rate the ring I purchased three weeks ago. However, I have yet to receive. I am still going to rate my purchase Five stars in hopes that I receive my ring and it looks as good in person as it does in pictures. I realize this item is delivered from China and
hope that’s the reason for its delay. Fingers crossed.
