Acupressure Mat - Review & Benefits
In this Acupressure Mat Review we will be looking at the acupressure/acupuncture mat and looking at the proposed benefits and whether you should get one. The Acupressure mat is also known as the Shatki mat.
The reason why we decided to review the acupressure mat and look at it's benefits is that I had back and kneck pain in the past and had trouble with treatment. I am also very active so seen a lot about this but was also a little bit worried about getting one the idea of sitting on a spiky mat was not encouraging to me.
Well at Mr.YouWho we decided to take the plunge and get one of these acupressure mats. You can see the full video review here:
In this review we will be testing the mat out to see if it has any real benefits, we will also be discussing the proposed benefits and whether you should get one.

spikes doesn’t seem like much fun. Fortunately this do it yourself acupressure treatment is said to offer a variety of health benefits, mostly in the form of pain and stress relief. To understand why the mat is so effective it is important to have a look at what Acupressure and Acupuncture is.

Acupressure Mat Benefits
Basically, an acupressure mat is a device that allows you to reap the benefits of acupressure on your own, without a therapist. The mats are made of foam, fabric, or most often, a layer of both, and studded with hard, round, plastic “rosettes” liberally covered with short spikes.
You’ll find acupressure mats in a range of sizes and many different colors.
You can also purchase this mat from Mr.YouWho or from Amazon by clicking the picture below:
When the user lies, stands, or sits on the mat, the sharp spikes stimulate the acupoints, thereby helping relieve any energy blockages along the body’s meridians. Because acupressure mats have so many spikes, you don’t need to know acupressure or acupuncture methodology to use them.
You’re pretty much guaranteed to stimulate several important acupoints just by lying on
If you’re looking for an overall wellness-type stimulation, then an acupressure mat is for you.
How does Acupressure Mat work?
Acupressure mats work by acting on various nerve endings and acupressure points along the spine to help eliminate tension and stimulate the production of hormones such as oxytocin and endorphins. The release of these calming hormones allows us to feel relaxed, at peace and in a better mood.
Acupressure mats can also release endorphin into the blood stream, this naturally allows our body to relax and relieve pain in different areas of the body. If you use an acupressure mat regularly, and for a long enough period of time, it has the ability to provide the following health benefits:
- Natural Pain Relief
- Much Better sleep
- Increased blood flow to muscles
- Relief and Relaxation
- Improved Immune response
- May help you lower your blood pressure
- Helps clear acid from the body (great for anyone with joint or gut issues)
So how effective was it? We found the mat was initially a little bit uncomfortable when lying on it, I would suggest if you start by using a shirt you can get used to it you can then move to bare skin afterwards.

How to use Acupressure Mat?
By slowly lying down on the mat it helps to reduce the pain. Initiatlly after a few minutes there is a bit of pain (and I have a low tolerance to pain), it then seems to fade. I initially could only lie for 5 minutes at a time but now can do it up to 20 minutes.
I find that it helps heat the back and produces waves of relaxation. My back is quite warm after the treatment and you can see the marks of the spikes but they fade over time. I have found my back pain to be reduced considerably and I am sleeping a lot better. It is something that I now do on a daily basis.

In regards to some of the claims I think it is difficult to prove them. Each person’s body is different so it is hard to judge what can work for one person. Claims such as lowering blood pressure for example would have to be proven in a test group.
Should I buy and Acupressure Mat?
All in all this is a wonderful product and is recommended for anyone wanting to reduce pain and increase relaxation in their body.
I would very highly recommend you purchase one. I use mine everyday!
